For a long time, August was Art in the Mad River Valley – no more! We’re fast becoming a year-round feast of creativity, promoting other organizations’ programs as well as developing new offerings for arts enthusiasts who live in and visit this very special place we call home.
For the past five years, Valley Arts has nurtured two events which have become widely known and highly regarded by artists and appreciators all over the USA. The Green Mountain Watercolor Exhibition, in the Big Red Barn at Lareau Farm in Waitsfield, is extraordinary for its quality and diversity. Watercolor artists from all over the US, as well as a few from Canada and Mexico, are represented each year. Nearly three thousand visitors enjoyed this exhibit last year. The 2017 dates are June 18 to July 22. It’s a must-see!
The other relatively new event draws artists to our Valley to paint the local scene “en plein air” on a three day weekend in August, during the Festival of the Arts. Each year more artists from an ever-widening area join us to paint. They come from all over vermont and from states as far away as South Carolina. Visitors, both local and from away, enjoy a summertime stroll and a chance to watch and converse with the artists as they paint.
New to our 2017 calendar is the September through Columbus Day “Multi-Media-Mania” Exhibit of high-end artisans, photographers and print-makers work that isn’t shown in our other exhibitions. The Big Red Barn at Lareau Farm is the venue for that show.
Watch, too for our Valley Arts Members’ Show in Spring, held at the Festival Gallery. And keep an eye on our Events Calendar for news of exhibits in our Festival Gallery, as well as in others around the Valley.
